GIVE A CHILD THE UNIVERSE BRING ASTRONOMY TO THE CLASSROOM
Project ASTRO is looking for astronomers and
3rd-9th grade teachers to partner and bring
hands-on astronomy activities to the classroom
for the 2009-10 school year. Together, you attend
a 2-day summer workshop to learn inquiry-based
astronomy activities designed to involve students
in the excitement of scientific discovery.
Project ASTRO has been operating since 1993 in
the Bay Area with great success. We emphasize
ongoing partnerships that foster an engaging
environment for students to learn and one in
which they really get to know their astronomer.
To accomplish this, astronomers make at least
four visits to their adopted classroom at
mutually convenient times. Many Project ASTRO
astronomers go beyond the classroom to organize
stargazing events, arrange field trips, create
astronomy clubs, or assist with science fairs.
Applications are now being accepted online for the 200910 school year.
All participants are required to attend a 2-day
workshop to be held August 7 & 8, 2009, at the
San Mateo County Office of Education in Redwood
City. The program is free to participants.
