Good morning all,
Randall Talk Tonight
Please note for the SFAA meeting tonight at 7:30 pm. We will meet down
the ramp to the right as you enter the Randall in the Buckley Room
rather than in the theatre for our Membership Meeting and hear John

The Autopsy of Heaven: Galileo, Telescopes, and the Beginning of
Modern Science

Nick Kanas
Thursday, May 28, 7PM - UCSF Professor and NASA-funded researcher, Dr.
Nick Kanas provides a fascinating look at the night sky and answers
such stellar questions as: "How have different cultures made sense of
the night sky?
What led to the development of the great star and constellation atlases?
What has been the impact of the telescope on celestial mapping? Using
stunning images taken from his book Star Maps: History, Artistry, and
Cartography (2007), Professor Kanas will trace the history of our
attempt to organize and map the night sky, drawing on his many years
as an amateur astronomer and an avid collector of antiquarian
celestial prints and books.
Don't miss this heavenly presentation!"

Pinnacles Star Party
On Saturday June 20th the Pinnacles Partnership will hold its 3rd
annual picnic at the RS
Bar Guest Ranch 17 miles south of the Pinnacles Park. This is the
same location that
recently a pair of California condors nested and successfully
incubated and hatched the
first condor chick in over 70 years in the Pinnacles area.
That evening we are asked if we would like to put on a star party not
only for ourselves
but for anyone else left over from the picnic to enjoy. There will be
no charge for setting up our scopes. We can even camp overnight if
one wishes. No water at the site, but there will be porta-potties.
This location is about 47 miles south of Hollister taking Hwy 25
south. So if you would like to stay overnight you can, and take a
leisurely ride home the following morning. It is a beautiful area,
with gorgeous skies.
This email is to make contact with you to see how many of you would be
interested in
participating in the star party. If we can get enough to make it
worthwhile we will go
ahead with it. We already have three scopes that will be there so I
don't think it should
be a problems to pull this off.
If you are interested please get back to me, then I will notify
everyone about all the
particulars on how to get there, etc.... Be sure to let your friends
and any members of
your clubs know that it is free.......
Hope you can make it....
