Hello Avani,
I will forward your request to my constituents and let's see what surfaces.
Perhaps you will find someone near your location that will be willing to
give you the assistance you require. Good luck with your project and let me
know what the results of the project were and whether we were of any assistance.
Sincerely,
Walt Heiges

Mr. Heiges,
Thank you very much for your response, I really appreciate your time and
initiative.
Since you are in Sacramento, interaction would be difficult. Do you know of
anyone in or around
Fremont who will be willing to be my consultant for my project?
Right now I am looking for someone who will allow me to shadow them around
the work place, and
show me the ins and outs of their job. I will also need help setting up my
service and it would be great if my
consultant would be able to help me.
I have talked to a local elementary school and the principal was very
keen on my idea of wanting to start a math and science club.
Thank you again,
--Avani Bedagkar.

Hello Avani,
I am not quite sure how I can help you with your project but I can
certainly field any questions you might have. Since I am just outside Sacramento and
you are in Fremont, our personal interaction would be very difficult. I can
offer guidance via e-mail or point you in the right direction in order for
you to find the information you need for your project. I may assist you with
recommendations for your research. As President of the Sacramento Valley
Astronomy Society and the Astronomical Association of Northern California, I
have access to many professional and amateur Astronomers. If I don't have the
answers, I know someone who does. We have several Astronomy groups in the Bay
area and I think there are a few near you.
Let me know how I can help,
Walt Heiges

Mr. Heiges,
My name is Avani Bedagkar and I am a senior at Irvington High School in
Fremont Ca. In our senior year we have to do a bench mark project called QUEST.
For QUEST we have to find a topic of interest and form an essential question
regarding it, and also find a place to do our experience.
In the end we have to set up a community service related to our topic of
interest
and give a final testimony about our project All the research we do, our
experience, and service is aimed towards answering our essential question.
We are required to find a consultant who is willing to have someone
volunteer for them for 15 hours, and will give us hands-on experience with their
profession. .
My QUEST topic for my senior year is Astronomy, more specifically the space
exploration and technological advances that come from research.
My essential question is "How do the achievements and advances in astronomy
and space exploration encourage young children to become more involved in
math and science?"
For my service I have talked to a local elementary school about starting and
start a math and science fun club. The principal of the school was very
excited to
hear of my plan, and wants to carry it forward.
I am looking for a consultant who will let me observe and give me hands on
experience and also help me set up my service at the elementary school.
I came across information about your program while doing research for my
topic and was hoping that you would be able to help me.
Thank you very much
I appreciate your time,
Sincerely
Avani Bedagkar.
