This, from Tucker Hiatt, Director of Wonderfest:
Fellow amateur astronomer Norm Sperling has suggested that you might be interested in
Wonderfest, the Bay Area Festival of Science.
Perhaps you will allow me, the director of Wonderfest, just the next few paragraphs to
explain Norm's suggestion ... and my hope.
Wonderfest 2008, the 10th anniversary Wonderfest, takes place at Stanford and Cal on the
weekend of November 1-2.
Wonderfest is a joint production of the Stanford Chemistry Department, the Cal Physics
Department, and Wonderfest (a non-profit, educational project headquartered in Marin).
Wonderfest's key feature is a series of public scientific dialogues between accomplished
and articulate researchers in pursuit of public enlightenment. Please see the full
schedule of events -- and much more -- at www.wonderfest.org.
This year, for the first time, Wonderfest will include something very special to help put
the "fest" in Wonderfest: The Bay Area Science Expo.
The Expo spans a 3-hour continuous period at each of the Wonderfest venues, and it
features artists, authors, comedians, craftspeople, AND ORGANIZATIONS that promote a
scientific outlook.
The Planetary Society is co-sponsoring Wonderfest 2008. Many Society members will be in
attendance, and they (perhaps like you) may particularly enjoy a talk and DVD presentation
by celebrated space artist Don Davis; this takes place at Stanford on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The next day, at Cal, astronomy buffs will be drawn to a dialogue on the "Fermi paradox"
between Geoff Marcy and Dan Werthimer entitled "Why Do We Seem So Alone in the Cosmos?"
